Old School Advent – Christmas calendars to cherish
1Limited edition Biscuiteers advent calendar by Susie Watson

Luxury advent calendars are the biggest new trend at Christmas in retail, with the beauty industry leading the way in terms of innovation.  Shockingly, some calendars are priced anything up to £250 and the larger retailers with strong buying power do seem to be able to provide good value for money with the marketing message focused on ‘treating yourself’ and the additional pressure of ‘not missing out on a great deal’.  However with our minds firmly on the subject of fast fashion, recycling and the effect of mass commercialism we have decided to again feature some of our favourite advent calendars which can stand the test of time.  Not single use, excessively priced boxes but well-designed products that can be shared with the whole family and welcomed into the tradition of Christmas year after year.

The start of Advent is fast approaching, here’s our round-up of the most stylish choices available on the market.  This year we have also tried, where possible to focus on the independent stores that we adore and continue to support.
